"Skeleton watches have a long tradition in watchmaking. They enjoyed great popularity in the mid nineteenth century, providing as they do a fascinating glimpse of the inner workings of the timepiece. Not much has changed in this respect over the years. This miniature mechanical world continues to fascinate. This year this fascination comes in the form of the DAVOSA Skeleton Automatic limited edition. The simple, three-part, polished stainless steel case with a 40mm diameter strikes a reserved note. Instead the mechanics take centre stage. A finely finished ETA calibre 2824-2 with blued screws, pearlised bridges and a rhodinised surface can be observed in its rest and active phases through the generous glass cover. The watch face ring underscores the impression of elegance coupled with technology. A subdued, silvery white, sunray-finished background and anthracite-coloured middle ring offer a striking optical reference point for the hand-applied, silver-plated hour markers and four Arabian numerals. The minute markings are discreetly positioned within the inner circle and luminous points and hands guarantee visibility at night. The anthracite detail of the watch face ring can also be found in the stitching and trimmed edges of the calfskin crocodile grain strap. The edition numbers from 001/500 to 500/500 are engraved on the side of the case at “9 o’clock”. This series embodies yet another consistent implementation of the DAVOSA philosophy of combining sophisticated mechanics with contemporary design that is classic enough to stand the test of time."
